Star Wars: The Force Awakens Teaser Trailer Online Now

Put down that leftover turkey sandwich and feast your eyes on this:

From the looks of this trailer, I can’t tell you how excited I am for the next installment in the Star Wars saga! To be honest, the first time I watched it, I thought the ball droid looked a little silly and I didn’t like the look of the new lightsaber. It just seemed a little silly with the cross guard nubs coming out a split second after the main blade, similar to Darth Maul’s double-bladed saber reveal, but less impressive. But upon successive viewings, the ball droid looks inventive and whimsical, and the new lightsaber looks like a medieval broadsword. I’ll be referring to it as a broadsaber from now on. (Well, maybe it looks more like a longsword, but I like the term broadsaber, so I’m sticking with it.)

Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer can be seen in select theaters this Friday

The teaser trailer for the next Star Wars movie (which is Episode VII and entitled The Force Awakens, in case you have been frozen in carbonite until recently) will be airing at 30 select theaters across the United States the day after Thanksgiving, according to a recent announcement by Director J.J. Abrams.  Just one more thing to be thankful for.

J.J. Abrams teases Millennium Falcon for Episode VII

In a tweet yesterday, J.J. Abrams included this photo as a playful hint at what you’ve probably heard elsewhere regarding the Millennium Falcon appearing in Star Wars: Episode VII:

JJ Falcon Card

I must say, I like his style.  And I have faith that this next installment of Star Wars is going to turn out to be well worth the wait.

(Also, if you’re not a big Star Wars fan and don’t understand the picture, that’s the table from inside the Millennium Falcon where Chewbacca and R2-D2 play holo-chess and where Leia consoles Luke after the loss of a friend.)

Hilarious Princess Bride / Game of Thrones promo is perfect

Season 3 is coming… What if Fred Savage had been read A Game of Thrones rather than The Princess Bride? Hilarity. That’s what.

If you haven’t finished watching (or reading) season one (or book one) of the Game of Thrones, this video contains major spoilers for the first season (or book). But then again, if you started watching the first season and haven’t finished it, I stand in awe of your willpower and I’m surprised you’re here and not watching it right now. It is fantastic how well The Princess Bride and A Game of Thrones go together as edited in this trailer.

Even a galaxy far, far away had conspiracy theorists….

If you’ve heard of the conspiracy theory documentary movie about 9/11 called Loose Change then you’ll see why this video is cleverly (and punnily) called Luke’s Change. It is a revealing documentary that blows the lid off an intergalactic cover-up larger than the smuggling ring involving the spice mine of Kessel, the Kessel Cover-up. Of course, like many of the truths we cling to, it will depend greatly on your own point of view.

Kick-Ass 2 red band trailer

The cast from Kick-Ass are back (minus Nicholas Cage) and they’ve added Jim Carrey who plays Colonel Stars and Stripes and is almost unrecognizable. It also looks like they have several other costumed characters as well, but enough of my prattling.

Here’s the red band trailer for the sequel to Kick-Ass, aptly titled, Kick-Ass 2.

Coming August 16th.

A spiritual successor to The Neverhood is coming!

The Neverhood

If you’ve ever played The Neverhood (1996 – PC CD) you already understand why this is exciting news. The Neverhood is one of those truly one of a kind games that is like no other game before or since. It is a point and click adventure game, but the entire world and characters are all composed of clay and painstakingly stop-motion animated frame by frame. For those not familiar with the process, it is the same process used to make films such as The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Corpse Bride and the more recent Frankenweenie. It gives the game a very unique, whimsical look and feel.

The Empire Strikes Back: Revisited by Adywan needs your help

It’s no secret that The Empire Strikes Back is my (and many other fans’) favorite Star Wars movie and one of my favorite films of all time. Now, a truly talented and hardcore fan, Adywan, with an eagle eye for technical details and serious editing skills has taken it upon himself to improve the high-definition version of the film with many changes in his soon eventually to be released fanedit known as The Empire Strikes Back: Revisited. The changes range from (on the minimal side) color correction to (on the extreme side) hand painted mattes, homemade models and digital effects. The fanedits he makes are essentially his take on what the Special Editions should have been; technical improvements with no story changing elements or silly gags thrown in.

Below is one of his comparison videos. Continue reading for another. Notice the new models for the AT-AT Imperial walkers through the binoculars (along with the revised look of the binocular view). The color correction is spot on and there are more speeders and walkers visible. He even added orange stripes to a full size speeder that were missing from the original shot as they take off from the hanger.
