Star Wars: The Force Awakens Teaser Trailer Online Now

Put down that leftover turkey sandwich and feast your eyes on this:

From the looks of this trailer, I can’t tell you how excited I am for the next installment in the Star Wars saga! To be honest, the first time I watched it, I thought the ball droid looked a little silly and I didn’t like the look of the new lightsaber. It just seemed a little silly with the cross guard nubs coming out a split second after the main blade, similar to Darth Maul’s double-bladed saber reveal, but less impressive. But upon successive viewings, the ball droid looks inventive and whimsical, and the new lightsaber looks like a medieval broadsword. I’ll be referring to it as a broadsaber from now on. (Well, maybe it looks more like a longsword, but I like the term broadsaber, so I’m sticking with it.)

Scene by scene breakdown with pictures and discussion follows…

Hilarious Princess Bride / Game of Thrones promo is perfect

Season 3 is coming… What if Fred Savage had been read A Game of Thrones rather than The Princess Bride? Hilarity. That’s what.

If you haven’t finished watching (or reading) season one (or book one) of the Game of Thrones, this video contains major spoilers for the first season (or book). But then again, if you started watching the first season and haven’t finished it, I stand in awe of your willpower and I’m surprised you’re here and not watching it right now. It is fantastic how well The Princess Bride and A Game of Thrones go together as edited in this trailer.

Kick-Ass 2 red band trailer

The cast from Kick-Ass are back (minus Nicholas Cage) and they’ve added Jim Carrey who plays Colonel Stars and Stripes and is almost unrecognizable. It also looks like they have several other costumed characters as well, but enough of my prattling.

Here’s the red band trailer for the sequel to Kick-Ass, aptly titled, Kick-Ass 2.

Coming August 16th.

The Empire Strikes Back: Revisited by Adywan needs your help

It’s no secret that The Empire Strikes Back is my (and many other fans’) favorite Star Wars movie and one of my favorite films of all time. Now, a truly talented and hardcore fan, Adywan, with an eagle eye for technical details and serious editing skills has taken it upon himself to improve the high-definition version of the film with many changes in his soon eventually to be released fanedit known as The Empire Strikes Back: Revisited. The changes range from (on the minimal side) color correction to (on the extreme side) hand painted mattes, homemade models and digital effects. The fanedits he makes are essentially his take on what the Special Editions should have been; technical improvements with no story changing elements or silly gags thrown in.

Below is one of his comparison videos. Continue reading for another. Notice the new models for the AT-AT Imperial walkers through the binoculars (along with the revised look of the binocular view). The color correction is spot on and there are more speeders and walkers visible. He even added orange stripes to a full size speeder that were missing from the original shot as they take off from the hanger.

New Star Trek: Into Darkness trailer

Even though some huge Trek fans didn’t like some of the time-traveling, canon-shredding parts of the previous Star Trek movie, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The casting of characters was spot on and really meshed with their previous selves. And seeing Simon Pegg in a huge sci-fi movie is a treat.

This next installment in the newly rebooted Star Trek franchise is looking good. Here’s the latest trailer. I like the back and forth between Kirk and Spock.

In theaters May 17th.

Much Ado About Nothing trailer – movie due in June

Much Ado About Nothing was always one of my favorite Shakespeare plays.  Right up there with The Taming of the Shrew.  I enjoyed its previous incarnation on the big screen with the Kenneth Branagh version in 1993, which also starred Keanu (Ted Theodore Logan) Reeves only 4 years after he did Bill and Ted.

The next foray into this heady arena is helmed by none other than the wildly popular and successful, geeky sensation, Joss Whedon.  I (like many geeks) enjoy a lot of Whedon’s work, and his take on this classic looks very well made and acted.  Check out the trailer below and share your thoughts in the comments.

In theaters June 21st.

Game of Thrones Season 3 extended trailer

The anxiously awaited Game of Thrones Season 3 trailer is here with a glimpse of some of the amazing things we’ll be treated to during the next season. For those of you who haven’t been reading the books (which I highly recommend, even if you’ve already watched the corresponding season of the show) I can tell you that you’re in for a very exciting show this season! There are many thrilling, powerful and unexpected moments coming our way. For those of you who have been reading the books, make sure to notice someone’s agony, someone’s army, a bear and a battle for the fate of one of our favorite characters.

This is the End red band trailer

Well, the apocalypse is upon us. Luckily we have some great looking comedy from a bunch of comedians and actors to keep our mind off the zombies, floods, earthquakes, meteors, alien annihilation or whichever way the end was supposed to go down today.

This is the End is a movie about some sort of apocalyptic event and the ensuing hilarity. James Franco stars along with Seth Rogan, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Michael Cera and a bunch of other people who frequent the Apatow-ian movies that seemed to have spawned all these wonderfully talented comedians.

The movie was written in 2007 by Seth Rogan and costar Jay Baruchel, in what I can only imagine must have been a stoned session of them sitting around postulating what would happen to them and their friends should some cataclysmic event transpire.

All of the actors play themselves in This is the End which, in my opinion, gives them more opportunities to have fun with (and at the expense of) each other and ultimately entertain us. But enough about my opinion. Check it out:
